Yahoo! Speaks With Lauren

Lauren Conrad spent the better part of her teens and early twenties sharing her life with the world on the hit MTV reality shows “Laguna Beach” and “The Hills,” but these days the 27-year-old prefers her privacy.
"When you do something like that, you start to really value privacy, so once I was done I was really looking forward to keeping some things to myself.”
We can’t say we blame her.
The California girl will be hitting South Beach for Cotton’s 24 Hour Runway Show on Friday, and took a few minutes out of her busy schedule to chat with omg! about her main squeeze, William Tell, how she’s changed since her days on reality TV, and the latest spring trends.
We loved the Instagram you posted of you and William on Valentine’s Day. Can you tell us about it?
You know what is funny, that picture was actually taken at one of my best friend’s wedding. We’re actually in the background of a photo and we just zoomed in on it. It is one of my favorite photos because it is my friend and her husband, and she’s obviously saying something really crazy and he’s making this face at her, like, “Really?” and we’re just in the background. I love it because it is kind of like someone newly dating and someone married. We unintentionally photo bombed.
How is William?
We’re good. I’m happy.
Does he have any bad habits that you can’t stand?
I don’t think so. I am pretty fond of him. There’s nothing that stands out that I’m not really happy with.
When it comes to you, people are always talking marriage rumors. Care to dish?
There is always that with everyone. You just let people have their opinions and you don’t worry about it and you just focus on yourself.
Have you made a conscious decision to be more private since your days on reality television?
Oh yeah, of course. I think that during the show you feel an obligation to share your life with people because that’s your job and that’s what you do. Throughout those years, when you do something like that, you start to really value privacy, so once I was done I was really looking forward to keeping some things to myself.
Would you ever do anything different about how you got to where you are today thanks to reality shows?
I don’t think so. You know, even the mistakes that I made taught me lessons and I don’t really have any regrets. I think the only thing that I would change is maybe my attitude towards it. I think I spent a lot of time stressing. I was also 18 and 19 years old when I started, so that’s expected. You worry a lot about what people think about you and what you would do differently. I think that as soon as you let go and stop thinking about it, it all becomes much easier.
How do you think you’ve changed since your teen years to now? Did you learn any lessons?
I do think that your 20s are such an important part of your life as far as figuring out who you are, the type of person you want to be, and what type of people you want to surround yourself with. I think they’ve been really important years to me. I’ve definitely learned a lot, made a lot of mistakes, but so does everyone.
You have your website, a fashion line, and write books. Do you have any new projects coming up?
I do, but nothing I can talk about yet. I have a couple of exciting things that I am going to do this year. I just finished my last novel in the series that I am doing, so that felt like a big sigh of relief. It was nice. Then I was immediately like, “What’s next?”
Are you going to take some down time now that the book is finished?
A little bit. I am excited to finish the book because I would like a little more me time this year. I am going to try and have a hobby.
Let’s talk style! Do you have a favorite celebrity fashion line?
Elizabeth and James. I’ve bought from for years. That’s an amazing line. I like theirs. So good!
What is one style that girls wear that guys hate?
I think it is different, because there are some styles that I think guys would hate and then they don’t mind them. I think it just depends on the guy. When it comes down to it, guys are pretty simple with style. They want it tight and short and simple. Every guy that I’ve talked to, that’s what it comes down to. They’re not super complicated people.
Does your own boyfriend make comments about your personal style?
Only when I ask. He’s smart. He knows better.
Are you glad harem pants are no longer trendy?
Well, they aren’t flattering on any human. That is strictly a style choice. Nobody is like, “Your butt looks really good in those.”
What is one spring fashion must-have?
I am looking forward to all of the multi-colored laces. They’re so pretty and I’ve seen them in a few different lines and I am definitely looking forward to them.
What color nail polish are you feeling this spring?
I haven’t decided yet. I need to mix it up. For the last two months, I’ve just been wearing reds, but spring I’ll probably mix it up. I’m undetermined.
You’re often out and about at events. What is your trick to striking the perfect red carpet pose?
Oh, I don’t know. I hope someone tells me someday. I will never be comfortable on a red carpet. For me it is like, do it quick and get off!

Lauren Talks Spring Style Staples

From Laguna Beach to South Beach! MTV reality starlet Lauren Conrad hit Miami for Cotton's 24 Hour Runway Show, which featured 1,440 looks all made of cotton. Ever conscious of the cameras, LC changed out of her original yellow dress she planned to wear due to the windy weather in Miami Saturday. She instead chose a red Black Halo dress that was less prone to a wardrobe malfunction with the gusty winds, which is just another reason we love her style!

SheKnows: What do you love about cotton?

Lauren Conrad: I love the feel of cotton and the way it lets the skin breathe. I am also impressed by how versatile a fabric it is!

SK: What are some great staples women should add to their closets for spring and summer?

LC: A maxi dress, a colorful cardigan and one item with a spring print.

SK: What do you think of the mod look that seems to be coming back?

LC: I think the mod look really plays well with the black and white trend we are seeing now.

SK: Nail polish colors you can't wait to wear for spring?

LC: I love a light green, almost teal nail.

SK: Is there a beauty brand or product you can't live without?

LC: So many but my favorite is simple,Aquaphor.

SK: Currently, what's your favorite thing in your closet?

LC: My vintage Chanel bag.

SK: Who's your celebrity style icon?

LC: Sadly I don’t have one! I always get asked this, so I really need to find one. There are just so many people I admire.
